Your installers measured
If a part is made to your sizes and one of them was wrong, the new part is made at your cost. Checking each size before you approve the drawing avoids that.

THREE WAYS TO ORDER CUSTOM METAL AND WHAT EACH INCLUDES
A supply-only price and an installed price pay for different amounts of work, and BC taxes them differently too.
Custom metal can be ordered three ways. You pick it up, we deliver it, or we install it. Pickup and delivery are both supply only, where the metal is made to your drawing and your own installers fit it. Supply and install adds our installers, who put it up on site to the approved drawings. Each option leaves different work to you and to other trades, and in British Columbia a supply-only order and an installed one are taxed differently.

Two things decide most of the answer, who's installing the metal and how it gets to the site. Start with who's installing.
| Ask yourself | If yes | If no |
|---|---|---|
| Do your own installers hang this kind of duct or metal? | Pickup or delivery leaves the install with them | Ask for it installed |
| Can your crew collect the order from Pitt Meadows in a truck or van? | Pickup is the simplest option | Ask for delivery to the site |
| Is the order too long or heavy to load by hand? | Ask for delivery, and we help unload larger orders | Pickup may be all you need |
| Do you want one company responsible for the metal from the shop to the ceiling? | Ask for it installed | Pickup or delivery works |
Each option hands the metal over at a different point. Whatever comes after that point is yours to arrange.
| Option | What the price covers | What's left for you |
|---|---|---|
| Pickup | The metal made to your approved drawing, ready at our shop | Loading it, driving it to site, unloading it, and the install |
| Delivery | The metal made and brought to your site, with help unloading larger orders | Moving it from the drop-off spot to where it goes, and the install |
| Installed | The metal made, delivered, and put up by our installers to the approved drawings | The work other trades do around it, and a site that's ready on the day |
| Field measure, added to any option | One of our installers measures the site before anything is made | Telling us about changes planned after the visit, and anything you know is behind a wall or ceiling |
Where each way of ordering hands the metal to your crew
Same metal, same path from the shop to the ceiling. Only the handover point moves.
A field measure can be added before any of them. Other trades' work sits outside all three.
Whoever took the sizes usually decides who pays for a part that won't fit, and your option often decides who that is. If your own crew is measuring, how to measure ductwork for a custom fitting walks them through it.
If a part is made to your sizes and one of them was wrong, the new part is made at your cost. Checking each size before you approve the drawing avoids that.
If our measurement was wrong, we remake the part at no charge. A change made on site after our visit, or hidden behind a wall, is quoted before we make a new part.
If the part is different from the approved drawing, the mistake is ours, and we fix or remake it at no charge. That's the same for pickup, delivery, or installed.
Responsibility for each size is easiest to settle before anything is cut. Who is responsible for each measurement explains how that's agreed on a drawing.
An installed price covers the metal and the work of our installers. Every trade beside them works under its own licences and rules. Name each one in your request.
| The work | Who usually does it | Why it sits with that trade |
|---|---|---|
| Cutting and sealing the roof opening for a duct or curb | The roofer | On a roof covered by RCABC's RoofStar program, only an RCABC member contractor should cut it, or the roof can lose that coverage |
| Wiring the exhaust fan, hood lights, and controls | A licensed electrical contractor | In BC, regulated electrical work needs a licensed contractor and a permit from Technical Safety BC |
| Sealing where duct passes through a fire-rated wall or floor | A firestop installer | The BC Building Code requires a tested firestop at those openings. We only do it when our quote lists it |
| The roof exhaust fan | The equipment supplier or the mechanical contractor | We don't supply fans, so our installers run the duct up to where the fan sits |
| Fire suppression in a kitchen hood | A fire suppression contractor | It's a fire protection system, separate from the sheet metal |
| Duct design, sizing, and stamped drawings | The mechanical engineer | We build to the engineer's drawings and don't stamp designs |
| Framing or steel to carry heavy equipment | The general contractor or a structural trade | Structural work follows the engineer's design and sits outside a sheet metal install |
| Removing old duct or insulation that may hold asbestos | A licensed asbestos abatement contractor | In BC, asbestos abatement has to be done by a licensed contractor |
On a kitchen job, even more trades meet at the hood. The kitchen exhaust scope of work lists each one and what it covers.
In British Columbia, two quotes for the same metal can differ on tax alone. Supply only and supply and install are taxed in different ways.
The supplier adds PST at 7% to the bill, as on any sale of goods. That's true even when the buyer is a contractor who will install the metal. GST at 5% is added too.
Ductwork installed in a building becomes part of it, so British Columbia treats the installer as the buyer of the metal. The installer pays PST on the metal, and the installed quote shows no PST. GST at 5% still applies.
Before you compare the two, add 7% to the supply-only figure. Some installers who are registered to collect PST show it separately instead, through a signed agreement with you. Ask how each quote shows tax, so you compare like with like.
The same shop can supply one job and install the next. These are illustrations, not Duct Duct Goose jobs.
A mechanical contractor's installers hang duct on most of their jobs. They price the straight duct and fittings on WebDuct and pick the order up, so the install stays with them.
The owner wants one company responsible for the hood and the grease duct. An installed price covers both, and the request names the roofer, the electrician, and the fire suppression contractor.
The new units go up on a booked crane day, and the adapters are delivered ahead of crane day. The mechanical contractor's crew sets them as the crane lifts each unit.
Most of these mistakes start with one word missing from the request. Each one is quick to fix before the quotes go out.
| The mistake | What happens | Do this instead |
|---|---|---|
| Writing "supply" without saying pickup or delivery | The quote may leave delivery out, and it's added later | Say which, and give the site address |
| Setting a supply-only price beside an installed one | The installed price looks higher, partly because of how PST is shown | Compare the same option, with tax worked out the same way |
| Assuming delivery means carried up to the floor where it's installed | The order may stop at the door or the loading area | Ask where it's dropped off, and plan who moves it from there |
| Leaving the roof opening, wiring, or firestop unassigned | Nobody prices it, and it turns up on install day | Name the trade for each one in the request |
| Ordering supply only without saying who measured | Nobody knows who pays for a size that's off | Say who took the sizes, or book a field measure |
Moving the order from the drop-off spot to the right floor is its own job on a crowded site. Getting fabricated metal onto a busy jobsite covers the delivery window, the unloading help, and the labels on larger orders.
Every request starts with the same question: who's installing it. The answer sets what goes on the quote.
Tell us which option you want. Pickup, delivery, or installed. If you're not sure, we'll ask about your crew and your site first.
The metal, the install, and any field measure are each priced separately.
Pickup is from our shop in Pitt Meadows. Deliveries go out in our van or with a delivery service. Larger orders are labelled by floor, area, or system, and can arrive in stages at a booked time.
Our installers put up ductwork, grease duct, exhaust duct, and the kitchen hoods we supply. They work to the approved drawings. Stainless counters, sinks, and shelving are delivered, and your own crew sets them.
Our HVAC ductwork fabrication and grease ductwork fabrication pages show what goes into each kind of order. Either one can be picked up, delivered, or installed.
Pickup and delivery suit buyers with their own installers. Installed suits jobs where one company should be responsible from the shop to the ceiling.
| Option | Suits | Not the right fit when |
|---|---|---|
| Pickup | Crews with a truck or van to spare, and orders they can load by hand | The order is long or heavy, or nobody can make the drive |
| Delivery | Installers who hang duct every week, larger orders that need help unloading, and stainless kitchen pieces your crew will set | Nobody on your side can install it |
| Installed | Grease duct and kitchen hoods, owners and builders without a sheet metal crew, and runs that need a field measure first | The work can only happen at night or on a weekend, because our installers work weekdays, 7:30 am to 5 pm |
Roofing, electrical, structural, fire suppression, and asbestos work belong with their own licensed trades. We also don't take residential vent or dryer vent jobs.

If your own installers hang this kind of duct, ask us for both prices. We'll quote supply only besides the install, so you can see what the install adds before you decide.
With these in the request, every supplier prices the same job. Send the same list to each one, and the quotes line up item by item.
An install price also depends on the building and site conditions that change an installation price covers what to send about yours. For everything else in the request, what Duct Duct Goose needs to quote custom metalwork goes item by item. More guides on fit and installation sit in Field Measure, Fit and Installation.
Send clean drawings or a sketch with sizes, and say whether you want pickup, delivery, or the install. We'll tell you what's missing before we price it.
